So where is the fun in that?<br />5k races are also the final length for a sprinter to heave himself into. Who ever hears of a sprinter using a 10k to help his 200 time? However, sprinters use 5ks in their regular training to help develop endurance and shave milliseconds off their times.<br />This is what makes the 5k a special race. Those 3.1 miles are where runners of all styles, distances and backgrounds come to meet, to show off their skill and have a good time. <br />The 5k is a relaxed race (unless itâ€™s the Olympics, or college), in which runners gather together in the early morning or late afternoon to check off some of their weekly mileage. For the sprinters, yes it may be their long run, and the distance runners are grateful for the short day, running only about 6 miles, with their 2-mile warm-up and mile cool down, but overall everyone enjoys a good 5k. At the end of the race refreshments ranging from water, to coffee, to kegs of beer await athletes, and a celebration is had by all while awards are given out. Awards are based on overall finish, for men and women, as well as finish in age groups. So even if a first time runner isnâ€™t close to the top three overall, they can still go home with a prize. Many races also have fun door prize giveaways and race bags, supplied by a local running store, and filled with gifts from sponsors.<br />If the 5k race sounds like a fun idea, lace up those running shoes, click off a weekly mileage of about 15-20 miles for a few weeks and get out there!</p>

This wind is not natural though, but it is as natural as a human presence can be in the forest. This wind is caused by the effortless motion of a trail runner, gliding through the trees, over the hills and down through the valley with ease. <br />These runners are the luckiest of the running world. To save their shins from ultimate destruction via roads/treadmills, they capitalize their access (or willingness to drive) to trails, where they find the true spirit and heart of running. Why donâ€™t we all run like the them? Because the trail runner is a special kind of runner, one with a different sort of grit than those road racers, gym rats and yoggers.<br />The trail runner is the renaissance of runners. He has returned and reawakened into nature. His grit comes from his ability to climb, push and run harder through all manner of footing. His challenge is his perk; the beautiful, calm scenery around him begs him to stop and dawdle, and if he were a weaker being he would stop to look, but instead the scenery drives him on, higher, harder and longer. The trail runner has infinite hours alone with his own being; the trail runner logs his miles as he delves deeper into himself. He allows the troubles to the world to shed off with each mile. Trail runners have something to teach us, but after all their miles alone, maybe they have forgotten how to do so with words. They can, undoubtedly, show. <br />Trail runners are not a cliquey group, and if some essence of your being is longing for misty mornings galloping down hills and across streams, no other escape awaits you like the trails. State and county parks are some of the best places to start, and if racing is in the plans, trail races range from easy 5ks, to 10ks, and even 50kâ€™s, which, known as Ultimates, are the end of the extreme and the test of tests. <br />Trail runners have one thing figured out, and it isnâ€™t just that humans need exercise to survive. Itâ€™s that humans need release to survive. And they have found theirs on the trail.</p>

Use sunscreen when training out in the open to minimize damage from the harmful UV rays of the sun.</p>
<p>Hydrate your body properly before running. This is extremely important, as lack of hydration while running races can affect your performance considerably. It is highly recommended that you drink one to two liters of water before the race. However, do not consume it all at once but in small quantities during and after breakfast and while on your way to the race venue. You should not have anything forty minutes prior to the race to allow your digestive system ample time to settle. Additionally, you should check the food and drink rules of the race to avoid disqualification due to an inadvertent mistake. Finally, arrive early at the race venue and be prepared to give your best.</p>

<p>If you are one of those who love the outdoors then a trail run is something that you must consider. The benefits of trail running are many. Apart from the regular benefits such as improved levels of fitness and weight loss, it is also excellent for the joints. It helps enhance endurance, strength and cardiovascular fitness as well. </p>
<p>Trail runners are required to jump, run and weave over small obstacles such as branches, rocks, roots. This provides a great workout for the entire body. Also, it keeps one more focused. The obstacles on the path require the runners to be alert while weaving their way through the woods. </p>
<p>The exciting sport provides a mental boost as well. The runners run away from commercial distractions, vehicle traffic and are in a more scenic environment. The fresh air and the constantly changing road conditions are rejuvenating. </p>
<p>Trail running requires special footwear. Unlike on smooth roads, this requires one to leap and jump over things and the ground too is uneven. It is therefore important that you wear shoes that provide the right support and protection.</p>
<p>Make sure to buy runner shoes before you start running. These offer great stability, protection and provide better grip than the normal running shoes. There are a number of shoes that are available in the market to suit your feet, budget and the surfaces on which you plan to run. </p>
<p>Trails vary in difficulty levels. It is best to choose one that best suits your fitness level. Make sure you wear comfortable clothes and carry certain things such as a torch, cell phone, map in case you get lost. If you are a beginner you can consider joining a running club. You can run with a group if you are in unfamiliar areas.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Trail races are a little bit different than what most runners are used to. For many racers they may seem more reminiscent of a practice run than an actual race. Rather than out on open road where most marathon style races are held these are run in a more natural setting. This has both positives and negatives associated with it. While it is true that running on a pressed dirt path can prove to be hazardous in many ways there are also a number of benefits that these nature path present. It is really more of a runners preference that makes the big difference.</p>
<p>The ground is softer in these races. This can be dangerous in the fact that the trail could have potholes in it, although this is usually checked before major races. The ground is looser in these trail races which can be the cause of slipping and possible injury. An experienced runner, however, is not likely to loose their footing on a trail which is sure to be somewhat compacted. On the positive side, the softer ground is easier on the knees, hips and other joints of the runners. This fact really helps to combat the body becoming fatigue.</p>
<p>More positive factors of trail races involve their placement. A more natural setting helps to calm the body and regulate breathing. This is a good thing to have in a stress situation such as distance running. The presence of trees also helps in a few ways. Of course shade helps keep runners cool and more hydrated. The moisture that the trees release into the air. The biggest help that the trees provide, however, is the air around them. Because plants produce oxygen, wooded areas have richer air. This air can help runners compensate for the stress on their bodies.</p>
